Everyone knows that there are a million and one resources to help you run your small business.

Although there are so many resources offered, it’s hard to know which ones are actually applicable to your business style and budget!

When starting a business, you are on a budget. There are ads and platforms you hear from that are telling you to “get the premium option and have full access to our platform!” Although these premium options can be helpful, sometimes there’s really no need for them.

Here are my top 6 favorite resources as a small business owner that I have used and loved!

Canva

If you do not have Canva, I give you full permission to stop reading this and GO GET IT!!! Y’all, my Canva account is open 24/7. I am CONSTANTLY making content on there, whether it be Instagram posts, a new website photo, or an infographic for a client. This amazing tool has saved me countless times. Not to mention, it has literally millions of templates already created for you! So if you’re not a particularly creative person, this is totally for you.

When I started Social By Claire, I purchased the Canva Pro option, which is only $10 per month. Not bad for all of the content they give you access to! However, if your content is coming from other places, you may not need to purchase the Canva Pro option. Whether you’re Canva Free or Canva Pro, YOU NEED CANVA.

Later.com

Later.com is a content scheduling platform that gives you the ability to plan your content out months in advance! As a social media manager, I always recommend my clients create an account on Later.com. It is so easy to make an account, and FREE for up to 30 scheduled posts per month! (In reality, you won’t be posting more than 30 times in one month, so no need to pay!) If you are not very creative when it comes to social media, you are able to use your small creative moments that you do have to plan out your content! I love the monthly calendar view, because I can see exactly how many more posts I need to create.

The only downside I have found with Later.com is that it does not post videos, and has a more hands-on approach with Instagram carousels. When posting a carousel, you will have to use your phone to upload the photos. Then at the time you scheduled the carousel to post, you will get a reminder and the post will save + copy to your clipboard for you to manually post. This is a bummer when you are busy and away from your phone at the moment, but overall is great to even get a reminder of the content you already created!

Trello

When my team expanded and my client list got longer, I knew I needed a tool to keep all of it straight. I found out about Trello, and never looked back. Trello is the ultimate project management tool for your business. It gives you the ability to have different “Boards” where you can have schedules for employees, links to different resources, due dates + assignees on different tasks, and overall a place for collaboration for your team!

My team loves Trello. It is the easiest way to keep everyone on the same page and keep the things of your business running smoothly. There is a paid option for Trello, but I have only used the free version! The paid version gives you more abilities to interact with your team. If your team is not a texting team, then this option could be for you!

Mailchimp

Mailchimp is an email marketing tool to use for your business. It is an easy way to set up automated emails as well as newsletters + more! I started using Mailchimp when my Instagram 101 Free Download needed a place to collect emails in order to send the download. It was so easy to set up an automated email through the button on my website. Not to mention, it’s FREE!!! Well, there is a paid option, but that’s for when you have more than 5,000 subscribers to your email list.

Mailchimp also gives you the ability to select different groups of your subscribers to send the new email to. Once you create the email from the templates they provide, you can then choose to send to all subscribers, or just a small group! This can be helpful when you are wanting new clients + send an email to just those clients you haven’t worked with before!

There are so many resources available to you as a small business owner, it’s just a matter of choosing the correct ones. I have tried pretty much all of them; some worth it, some not so much. But these 4 favorite resources are so helpful to my business and I know they will be for yours too!
